International Cooperation in Sustainability: Carbon Footprint Training from OMÜ to Europe

Within the scope of the international eTwinning project titled “ECO FOOTPRINTS, GLOBAL IMPACT,” founded and coordinated by Emel AKAY, an English teacher at Samsun İlkadım Derebahçe Secondary School, and involving five schools from Türkiye together with partner schools from European countries such as Romania, Portugal, Poland and Croatia, a meaningful event was held.

Ondokuz Mayıs University ÇEVSAM Deputy Director and Vice Head of the Environmental Engineering Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hülya AYKAÇ ÖZEN met with teachers and students from the partner countries in an online meeting and delivered a presentation entitled “From Awareness to Action: Measuring Your Carbon Footprint.”

In the presentation, the impacts of climate change, methods for calculating individual and societal carbon footprints, and sustainable lifestyle practices were discussed. This international event, carried out with the active participation of students from different European countries, became an important step towards increasing environmental awareness among young people.
