Ondokuz Mayıs University carries out many activities to motivate its students and staff to be sensitive and respectful towards other living creatures and the environment. In the educational part of these activities, it includes courses and course topics in the fields of other living creatures and human rights, environment and sustainability in associate, undergraduate and graduate programs. Wildlife and ecology, communication with animals, environmental education, environmental problems, climate change and its environmental effects, environmental justice, environment and public health, urban culture, environmental management systems, sustainable city policies, water and life, sustainable development, sustainable green engineering, sustainable agriculture are just a few of the courses on environment and sustainability, which total 145 in number.
In order to increase the number and diversity of academic studies and student activities related to the environment and sustainability, activities are planned and implemented in action plans to ensure that these areas receive a larger share of the research budget. A total of 5 student societies, including the Afforestation and Natural Life Society, Cycling Society, Environmental Society, Ecological Life Society, and Bird Watching Society, operate on environmental issues.
OMU's senior management shows awareness of environmental and climate change issues and organizes its staff, students and resources to make improvements in these areas. The campus area also has a great potential for sustainability activities in the field of education, with its geographical structure suitable for applied training and demonstrations.
