A Symposium on “The Reality of Artificial Intelligence” Held in Vezirköprü

The symposium titled “The Reality of Artificial Intelligence: Environmental Impacts, Future Generations, Opportunities and Threats”, hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Vezirköprü Vocational School and organized in cooperation with the Vezirköprü District Governorship and Vezirköprü Municipality, was held at the Conference Hall of the Vezirköprü Municipality Cultural Center.

The event, where the impacts of artificial intelligence on the present and the future were discussed from multiple perspectives, was attended by Vezirköprü District Governor Özgür Kaya, Vezirköprü Chief Public Prosecutor Sadullah Gümüş, Acting District Garrison Commander Burak Uğur Cantekin, Acting District Gendarmerie Commander Lieutenant Seyfettin Turgut, Director of Vezirköprü Vocational School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afitap Özdelikara, district protocol members, academic and administrative staff, and many students.

“Artificial Intelligence Is Now a Reality of Life”

Delivering the opening speech of the program, Director of the Vocational School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afitap Özdelikara stated that artificial intelligence has become a concrete reality whose effects are now felt in every aspect of life. She emphasized that educational institutions have the responsibility to train individuals who will guide this transformation.

Artificial Intelligence Discussed from Different Perspectives

During the sessions held as part of the symposium, artificial intelligence was evaluated in terms of its environmental impacts, child development, social opportunities, and risks.

In the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hülya Aykaç Özen delivered a presentation titled “The Environmental Reality of Artificial Intelligence: From Carbon Footprint to a Green Future”; Assist. Prof. Dr. Uygar Bayrakdar presented “Is Artificial Intelligence an Equalizer or a Divider for Children? Opportunities, Risks and Rights in the Context of Typically Developing Children and Children with Special Needs”; and Lecturer Dr. Ahmet Doğukan Sarıyalçınkaya delivered his presentation titled “The Age of Artificial Intelligence: The Sparkle of Opportunities and the Shadow of Threats.”

The presentations, which were followed with great interest by the participants, included evaluations on the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence technologies as well as their ethical, social, and environmental impacts.

Gifts Presented to the Speakers

At the end of the program, gifts were presented to the speakers who contributed to the event by Vezirköprü District Governor Özgür Kaya and Director of Vezirköprü Vocational School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afitap Özdelikara.

The symposium, which was held with strong participation, ended after the participants were thanked.
