Climate Change and Zero Waste Management in Local Governments

On 18 April 2025, our department alumna, Environmental Engineer Büşra ŞAHİN DURMUŞ, who serves as Head of the Climate Change and Clean Energy Branch and the Zero Waste and Recovery Branch at Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, visited our faculty and delivered a seminar titled “Climate Change and Zero Waste Management in Local Governments.” In the seminar, which attracted great interest from our students and academic staff, ŞAHİN DURMUŞ shared with the participants the experience she gained in the private sector and public institutions following her graduation. Many important topics were discussed, including the critical role of local governments in environmental sustainability, strategies for combating climate change, and the practical reflections of zero waste practices in the field. In addition, ŞAHİN DURMUŞ provided guiding insights for our students on career planning, employment opportunities for environmental engineers in the public sector, and areas of professional development, conveying the dynamics and responsibilities of the environmental engineering profession in the field through her own experiences.
