Ideas for the Environment Competed at OMU

Within the scope of Environment Week; An event called "Ideas Competing for the Environment" was organized in cooperation with Ondokuz Mayıs University Environmental Problems Application and Research Center, Environmental Engineering Department and Samsun Provincial Directorate of National Education.

To the event; OMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevim Alışır, Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ömer Bolat, Provincial Director of National Education Dr. Murat Ağar, Environmental Problems Application and Research Center Director Prof. Dr. Nurdan Gamze Turan, Head of Environmental Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Feryal Akbal, Turkish Anti-Erosion, Afforestation and Natural Assets Protection Foundation Provincial Representative Leman Özay, academicians, teachers and nearly 400 undergraduate and secondary school students attended.

Different competition themes, from climate change to waste management, from circular economy to smart transportation

In the competition organized at OMÜ Atatürk Congress and Culture Center; “Climate Change and Carbon Emission”, “Environment and Biodiversity”, “Sustainable Waste Management”, “Water Resources Management”, “Water Purification and Reuse of Purified Water”, “Industrial Symbiosis”, “Circular Economy”, “Energy Efficiency and Renewables” Today's important themes such as "Energy", "Sustainable Agriculture", "Sustainable Smart Transportation", "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning" and "Environmental Management in Disasters" were discussed.

192 poster presentations including solution alternatives

Within the scope of the competition, students studying at secondary education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and OMU prepared posters and presented their projects containing solution alternatives. While there were a total of 192 posters at the event, the top 3 projects at undergraduate and secondary education levels were determined by selection among them.

As a result of the evaluation of the candidates, the projects and project owners that were ranked at the undergraduate level:

Project Winner; “Radical Steps for a Clean Environment” (Aylin Dönmez – OMÜ Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning)

Project Second; “Facade Design with Air Cleaning Algae” (Veysel Aydın – Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture)

Project Third; “Production of Low Density Insulation Material with Waste Marble Powder and Waste Cardboards” (Kürşat Furkan Ağırca, Özcan Şimşek, Süleyman Okyay Kaya, Buğrahan İşler, Numan Yurtalan – Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering)

Project Third; “Sea Surface Cleaning Vehicle” (Samet Bulut – Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering)

Projects and project owners that were ranked at the secondary education level:

Project Winner; “Water Distillation System with Solar Energy in a Convection Absorption Cooler” (Ali Eren Özbaş – Vezirköprü Hatice Kemal Kayalıoğlu Science High School)

Project Second; “Breath for the Future” (Ceylin Bayrak and Ravza Melek Aksu – Uğur Schools Science High School)

Project Third; “Sera in the Water” (Mustafa Emre Karadeniz and Zeynep Naz Karayutu – İlkadım Final Academy)

Cash prizes and certificates of achievement for the top 3 students in the competition; All other students were presented with participation certificates.

The event ended with poster presentations.
