Within the scope of International Zero Waste Day on 30 March, various workshops were organized under the theme “Towards Zero Waste in Fashion and Textiles” on Friday, 28 March at Samsun Cumhuriyet Square, coordinated by the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and with the contributions of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, the Family Life Center, Samsun Olgunlaşma Institute, İlkadım Municipality and Canik Municipality. In these workshops held with the participation of students, textile waste was upcycled into new products; puppets were made from waste socks, pencil holders from PET bottles, baskets were woven from nearly forgotten traditional “bambuls” (waste fabric strips), and cloth bags sewn from textile waste were decorated with natural dyes using woodblock printing techniques. In addition, clothing that was still in usable condition was delivered to those in need through a “Clothes on the Hanger” donation activity. Our Center took part in these events, contributing to the development of environmental awareness.
