Moderated by Rector Prof. Dr. The session held by Yavuz Ünal, Prof. Dr. Güray Salihoğlu, Prof. Dr. Şule Erten Ela, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Demir, Assoc. Dr. Aktan Acar and Symposium President Prof. Dr. It was realized with the contribution and participation of Yüksel Ardalı.

“We attach importance to the fact that our university publishes the outputs as a book”

Rector Prof. attended and moderated the closing session. Dr. Yavuz Ünal said, “I would like to thank those who contributed to the organization of the symposium. We will declare the international report in December, where experts come together, taking into account the developments in the world regarding the threats we face regarding the environment and climate change. We attach importance to our university publishing these outputs as a book. I think that this Symposium is not just an academic event, it is an organization that clearly reveals what the changes in the world we live in will bring to us and invites everyone, especially institutions, to their duty. I am proud that we, as OMU, host such an organization. “I would like to thank everyone who participated, supported and contributed.” He concluded his words by saying.

“I am pleased that Ondokuz Mayıs University is hosting it”

Speaking at the closing session, Uludağ University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Güray Salihoğlu, “Symposium President Prof. Dr. I would like to thank everyone who contributed, especially Yüksel Ardalı. When we talk about sustainable development, we are talking about 3 topics; We are talking about economic, social and environmental development. This symposium addressed these three topics. It was a productive symposium under the title of climate change, bringing together many academics from different disciplines. I was also pleased to be hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University. It was the first time I attended such a beautiful organization after the Covid-19 pandemic. "Climate change is a global problem, so I am proud to contribute to this process that concerns everyone." he said.

“The symposium fulfilled its purpose”

Speaking at the closing and evaluation session, another panelist, Ege University Solar Energy Institute Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Şule Erten Ela said, “I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the organization of the symposium. Our Rector Prof. Dr. I would like to state that I admired Yavuz Ünal's contribution to the Symposium. I am very happy to be invited to such a symposium. The symposium fulfilled its purpose greatly. "It is important for us to share the work of different disciplines, including many topics from health to energy, on the axis of climate change." he stated.

“We are facing the climate crisis”

Assoc. Prof. shared his views on the symposium by touching on the climate crisis. Dr. Aktan Acar said, “While we could not have predicted that we would experience the climate crisis so closely, we just became aware that we were face to face with it. I can say that we represent architects, the professional group that is one of the biggest responsible for climate change. We realized that science and art make us human, and that we are human through art, while we did not understand humans very well when we described them in terms of biology. I think that this symposium made it possible to do something for the benefit of the planet. “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the symposium.” said.

“We must reduce carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions”

Professor, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation, and also a Member of the Symposium Organizing Committee. Dr. Yusuf Demir started his speech by expressing that he was once again proud of our university with this symposium. He emphasized that our resource consumption is rapid and emphasized the importance of reducing carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. Demir said that we cannot ignore the effects of climate change and that such studies from different disciplines guide us, and that he was happy that contributions were made to the symposium from different fields and that new knowledge was gained. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the symposium.

“It was an international symposium with topics and speakers from many different disciplines”

Chairman of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Ardalı said, “The Climate Cooperation and Green Deal Symposium was held at an international level with topics and speakers from many different disciplines. "Significant outputs were achieved in our symposium, which included studies from different fields such as education, health, energy, water and waste management, zero waste, tourism, hemp and wetlands for three days." said.

Briefly touching on the outcomes of the symposium, Ardalı said, “It was pointed out that we are in the most important phase of the climate change process and that we have created the generation that will direct the transformation to be made. It was stated that greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced with chemicals produced using environmentally friendly methods, especially the use of biofuels and other alternative fuels. The necessity of using cultural ecology as a method to combat climate change was emphasized. It was mentioned that carbon emissions could be significantly reduced with studies carried out on university campuses. At this point, the importance of reducing energy consumption in transportation and air conditioning was emphasized. While talking about the effects of climate change on groundwater, it was stated that seawater is interfering with groundwater on the Black Sea coast. It was stated that hemp, which is stated to be compatible with environmentally friendly policies, has a wide range of uses, especially in food, textile and construction, and that it should be brought to the fore against climate change with the advantages it has during cultivation. While trying to increase the standard of living, practices that cause climate change were mentioned. It was stated that the solution is to establish environmental quality standards with an integrated approach. "It was mentioned how activities that cause climate change negatively affect not only the world but also the future of children and humanity." He finished his speech by saying.

After the closing session, Kocaeli University Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Nermin Demirkol presented the OMÜ logo, which she made from porcelain waste of the Bonna company, to Rector Ünal during the symposium.
