An important discussion event addressing environmental issues was held at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Kurupelit Campus, hosted by the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center. Organized by the Chamber of Environmental Engineers (TMMOB), the event received significant attention from students, academics, and industry representatives.
The speakers included Prof. Dr. Perihan Binnur KURT KARAKUŞ, Head of the Environmental Engineering Department at Bursa Technical University; Ahmet KIRMIZI, President of the TMMOB Chamber of Environmental Engineers; Dr. Özcan ÇOLUK, Director of Climate Change and Zero Waste at Atakum Municipality; and H. Cihan SIDAL, Director of Global Teknik Environmental Laboratory. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Gülfem BAKAN, a faculty member of the Environmental Engineering Department at Ondokuz Mayıs University.
The event covered a wide range of topics, including current environmental issues, sustainability policies, the future of the profession, the role of environmental engineers in the field, and career insights for young engineering candidates. Participants had the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge from experts with both academic and practical experience in environmental management.
The discussion also addressed the climate crisis, waste management, protection of water resources, recent changes in environmental legislation, and the development of environmental engineering in Türkiye. During the Q&A session, students had the chance to direct their questions to the experts.
At the conclusion of the event, representatives of the TMMOB Chamber of Environmental Engineers emphasized the importance of such discussions in enhancing professional awareness and strengthening interaction between students and professional chambers. They expressed their gratitude to the OMU Environmental Engineering Department and all participants.
